PDRN can get onto a brand’s radar in a lot of ways.

Maybe your team keeps seeing it on TikTok. Maybe a competitor has launched a PDRN serum. Maybe a retailer, distributor, supplier, or trade show conversation has brought it up. Or maybe you’ve noticed that more established skincare brands are starting to develop with it too.

Once that happens, the questions usually become more serious:

Is PDRN just another ingredient trend—or is it likely to stay?

And just as importantly:

Does topical PDRN actually have enough evidence behind it to build a product around?

Those questions matter before you get into format, source, claims, or sampling—because first you need to know whether PDRN deserves a place in the line at all.

Is PDRN Skincare Just a Trend?

PDRN has a longer history in regenerative and aesthetic medicine, but its recent rise in topical skincare has been driven largely by K-beauty, social media, and the memorable “salmon DNA” story. What matters more now is what happened after that first wave.

More established brands are developing with PDRN, retailers are giving the ingredient more visibility, and the conversation is no longer limited to Korea or TikTok. COSRX, The Ordinary, and RoC have all explored PDRN in different ways, while retailers such as Sephora are giving the ingredient more space. We are also seeing more brands in the U.S. and other markets treat PDRN as a serious product-development direction rather than just a short-term trend.

At Blackbird, we see the same shift through overseas beauty shows(Cosmoprof), market visits, client meetings, and conversations with raw-material suppliers. As PDRN started coming up repeatedly across those channels, we began looking more closely at the ingredient ourselves and developed a PDRN series of our own, from more treatment-led formats to more visual concepts.

There is more competition now, and PDRN alone gives a brand less room to stand out. The question is what your product adds—whether that is a particular benefit, a different product experience, or a useful addition to your existing line.

Does Topical PDRN Actually Work?

This is usually one of the first questions brands ask once PDRN starts to feel like a real product idea.

There is enough evidence around PDRN to take the ingredient seriously, and we are starting to see more research on topical use too.One recent study looked directly at a topical PDRN eye cream over 28 days, while a broader 2026 review found promising results across PDRN and polynucleotide studies in skin rejuvenation, scar prevention, and wound healing.

*The evidence is promising, but topical PDRN is still an emerging area, and results from one specific PDRN material or formula should not automatically be applied to every PDRN product.

Alongside published research, we also look closely at the PDRN materials with our raw-material suppliers—what data comes with them and how they are expected to behave in a skincare formula.

We also look at the finished product through VISIA skin imaging and stability testing, alongside findings shared with us by brands conducting small-scale studies with PDRN.

If PDRN is going to be the hero ingredient, we usually pay more attention to the specific raw material and the data behind it. If it is part of a broader recovery or barrier formula, the whole formula matters just as much.

How Are Brands Approaching PDRN Now?

PDRN products are starting to take a few different directions.

Some brands are going more visual, using formats like hydrogel masks, capsule creams, bead serums, biphasic formulas, and jelly textures that are easier to show on TikTok and social commerce.

Others are taking a more performance-led route, focusing more on the raw material, supporting ingredients, testing, and clearer benefits such as recovery, barrier support, firming, or healthy aging.

We are also seeing more interest in vegan and alternative-source PDRN, where the source itself becomes part of the product story.

When a product or category catches our attention, we often buy the product and look at it more closely ourselves. We try the texture, look at the packaging and dosage form, review the ingredients and raw-material information, and pay attention to the claims, price point, sales channel, and market it is being sold in.

That is also how we have been looking at PDRN: not only at what brands say about the ingredient, but at what the product is actually like once you have it in hand.

Which PDRN Route Makes Sense for Your Brand?

A PDRN launch can look very different depending on what the brand needs next.

If you are still building a hero product, the concept usually needs to be easy to understand and strong enough to carry the launch. If you already have a bestseller and are expanding the line, the question becomes different: does PDRN really add something new, or is it just another treatment product sitting next to what you already have?

We already have several PDRN directions that we can show clients, from a jelly mist to a bi-phase serum and other formats. These give us something concrete to discuss, and sometimes one is already quite close to what the brand has in mind. Other times, the conversation gets more specific:

  • “We like the formula, but we don’t want another serum.”
  • “The product feels right, but the packaging is pushing the cost too high.”
  • “Can we make the recovery or firming story stronger?”
  • “Could we explore a different PDRN source or ingredient combination?”

That is usually where the direction starts to take shape. Some things may already feel right, while others need to change. From there, we can work out with the brand how much customization actually makes sense.

From there, we work with the brand on samples, discuss the feedback, and agree on any changes before moving towards production.

So, Should Your Brand Launch a PDRN Product?

If PDRN makes sense for your customer, your line, and the way you plan to sell it, then yes—it is worth exploring.

If you are interested in PDRN but are not yet sure what the product should look like, where it should fit in the line, or which direction makes the most sense, that is also a good time to talk.

Whether you already have a clear idea or are still exploring, talk to Blackbird. We can look at the options with you and work through the direction together.
